Easy One Hour Summer Dress

I intended to do a tutorial for this dress but my toddler got a hold of my camera and deleted all of my photos! I was lucky enough to find these final shots that I took with my phone. I know its the end of summer but I had to get one last dress in before I bring out my winter boots and sweaters. I got some chevron and white knit from Girl Charlee and whipped up this super easy summer dress in just under an hour. It is by far one of the easiest and simplest dress to make. It is embellished with a wide belt for a fashionable date night out to the movies, casual outing with friends or just relaxing at home. It can also be worn with a cropped cardigan when the weather changes. I will definitely be making more of these for my closet.

To make this dress all you need is a tank top that fits you well as a template. You can use the draft your own shirt pattern for reference. Once you cut out your top, shorten the length so that it fits on your waist. For the skirt, measure 1 1/2 your waist for the width and then however long you want the length to be. I made mine to hit my knees. Once you have your two pieces together, you just gather your bottom to fit the tank top and you are done!

I think this would look great for a long tank dress as well as short knee length as shown above. It may even be fun to make a mini dress or one with ruffles!

You can embellish this with a necklace, a contrasting belt and a cute clutch for a complete outfit.
