Simple Chunky Cardigan Crochet Pattern

Free Pattern· Women

17 Feb

Hi Everyone! It’s been a while since I posted or shared any updates on the blog. To be honest, single parenthood, my full time job and just life in general has been taken up most of my time. I am trying to figure out how to juggle it all. Recently, I have been learning to crochet. Unlike sewing, I can crochet in the evenings while watching a movie with my daughter or in the plane when I am traveling for work. I tried crocheting a few years ago but only made a few scarves before giving up. This time, I decided to challenge my creativity and make a cardigan. This super Simple Chunky Cardigan Crochet Pattern Review is from TL Yarn Crafts. The Kima Cardi is a free pattern and is perfect for beginners.

Crochet Cardigan

This simple chunky cardigan is made with single crochet stitches in the back loop and half double crochet stitches. The combination of those two stitches give the cardigan this beautiful raise, bumpy, chunky look. This is my daughter modeling the size small. For this cardigan, I used Lions Brand Hue and Me in the shade Desert. It is such a versatile and warm shade. My daughter absolutely loves it.

The pattern is finished with ribbing in the center and bottom. I didn’t do a good job aligning the ribbing to stitches on the main piece but practice makes perfect! I also like the optional pockets. Again, I definitely need to do better on aligning and pinning to make this straight next time. I like that that the ribbing for the pockets are horizontal instead of vertical like the front ribbing. This subtle difference makes the pockets stand out a bit more.

You can’t see it in this picture but the sleeves are a bit puffed which my daughter loves! Paired with the ribbing, the stitch pattern really makes the sleeves stand out. I still have a long way to go in my crochet journey but I am happy with how this turned out.

So, if you are looking for a simple chunky cardigan to crochet, check out the Kima Cardi. It’s perfect for beginners.

Thank you,
