The Stitching Scientist

    Flower Shaped Pillow

    Children· Decor· Free Pattern· Home

    10 Nov

Hey Guys! I have been away from my sewing machine for a while. I haven’t been in the sewing mood for some reason. I recently started crocheting and loving it so maybe you will see some crocheting tutorials on there soon. Anyway, I had some left over fabric from my Dresden Window Pane Quilt I did a few weeks ago and decided to make a matching flower shaped pillow out of it. I am going to use it to dress up my daughter’s bed. It is so girly with the Flutterberry fabric from Riley Blake. With all the flower patterns on the different fabrics, I couldn’t think of a better pairing than this gorgeous pillow. Red Viagra

How stunning are these pretty girly colors! Each one is so bright and bold. I just loved how this turned out. I may actually do this as my next baby shower gift for a girl. You can do this simple project with any scraps you have from other projects. Silagra http://www.wolfesimonmedicalassociates.com/silagra/

    Flower pillow 1

Here it is against my quilt. This will looks so pretty in my daughter’s room. The pillow ended up being about 15″ wide which is perfect for a little girl.  Not too big, not too small.

    Your Supplies:

    • 6- 8″ square scrap pieces
    • 2- 5″ circle piece
    • 1-5″ batting
    • polyfill for the inside
    • 18″ square piece for the back.

This is a super easy project. Down the pattern HERE.

Cut out 6 petals from your petal pattern. Sew the 6 petals right sides together using 1/2″ seam allowance. Iron neatly.

    IMG_1421

Next, lay the flower over your backing piece and cut around all the petals until you have a flower shaped back piece.

Next, lay the flower front and back together and sew all the way around right sides together, leaving a small opening. Turn inside out and iron.

    IMG_1423

Take your marking circle (small one) from your pattern and lay it on the center of the flower and draw around using a pencil. Sew around the circle.

    IMG_1425

Fill the pillow with your polyfill. Sew the opening closed by hand stitching. Set aside.

    IMG_1429

Take your large center circle and cut out 2 pieces of center fabric and 1 piece batting. Place batting on wrong side of one circle, then place the other circle right side together. Sew all the way around leaving a small opening. Turn inside out and sew opening closed.

    IMG_1427 IMG_1428

Now, take your center piece and hand sew it on the center of your flower.

    IMG_1430

That’s it! Go show off your creation.

I think it is quiet lovely and yes- very girly. I Love Girly even if I am 64. lol I too have been away from my sewing machine , since the death of my husband. I just did not realize how very much I pulled him into my projects and without him to offer his loving comments - some of the fun has hidden. But, I know I will do it again - just moving in that direction and like you I fell back on my crochet. Some easy Girly scarves -that you could just pick up and do in small amounts of time -yet still feel creative. After all- our creativity feeds our soul. Hugs

These are such nice looking flower shaped pillows. They looks really attractive with your sofa and your quilt as well. It's a perfect match for your quilts. The thing is quilt and pillow are compulsory things along mattress.

Pillows are that thing that can be used on any bed, sofa or couches. People can also use pillows at their lawns. Pillows make people comfortable and the post is really good.

These flower shaped pillows are too good. They can enhance the beauty of the room if we will use them in our bedroom. And they can also be used in the living room.

Sleep with the window closed, as warm as it is outside. During the summer especially, many people open their bedroom window in order to go to sleep. Then, in the middle of the night, when the temperature drops precipitously, the cold air causes the neck muscles to stiffen and cramp. Use a fan instead of opening your window next time

Oh my goodness!! You and your fantastic ideas! I thought of a few add-ons. What do you think?? :)
I could make some pillows out of this pattern out of Sunbrella fabric!! How cute would that be next to the pool for little girls hanging out with their friends/sisters on their beachtowels! I always remember wanting a pillow and the rolled up towel didn't quite cut it! I could add a loop on the back or top or two with velcro to hook it onto the towel when it's rolled up!!! [Terry-cloth or even clearance beach towels would work too with interfacing!]
