Half Square Triangle Table Runner

I have been meaning to add some life to my dining room area but just haven’t had the time to work on it. During one of my daily online fabric browsing trips, I passed by this charm pack that I thought would go well with my yellow, brown and black dining room. I used an HST (half square triangle) pattern similar to the pillow shams I did a while ago. The tutorial is similar, i.e, matching light and dark fabrics to create mini triangles that forms into squares. Instead of doing a pinwheel pattern like the shams, this pattern has the dark triangles going in the same direction.

This charm pack is from the Wrens and Friends fabric line. I only ended up using a little over half of the charm pack for this project. I have a small dining room table so this runner measures about 15″x40″. For the backing, I used a simple gray cotton. I loved how it turned out!

The bright orange binding really stands out and will give a good contrast to my black table. I really like how bold the colors are, each one holding its ground:-)

In quilting it, I decided to do stitch in the ditch (or I tried to at least), where the stitches are sewn in between the seams. I didn’t do such a perfect job as you can see:-). None the less, I am still in love with my new table runner.

I did machine binding due to my lack of patience and time to hand bind. Again, not perfect at all but looks pretty good. I think I may buy a cake layer from this line and make a quilt. Love the colors! Again, if you want to learn how to make this runner, you can follow a similar tutorial HERE.
