I started this Girl’s Tulip Sleeve Dress for my daughter a few months ago and never got around to quite finishing it. Finally got a bit of time this weekend to finish it all up. Few things I would change about the pattern, but overall pretty happy with the way it turned out. My daughter is 7 years old and obsessed with unicorns. I knew when I saw this fabric, I had to try and make something for her with it. I figure I probably have year left where she would want to wear handmade clothes, so I am making the best of it. This pattern comes in four sizes (3T-6). Mila is wearing the size 6 version and I think it fits her well.
The fabric used for the bottom is Michael Miller Sarah Jane Magic Metallic Unicorn Forest Fabric in Aqua. This also comes in pink which is equally pretty. The bodice is from the same line, Michael Miller Sarah Jane Magic Metallic Lucky Stars in White
If I had to change one thing about the dress, I would do something different with the front band. It looks fine but maybe a gathered band would have looked better. I also wish I had more fabric for the bottom to make it a bit more poofy. If you do make the dress, I would definitely recommend using more fabric for the skirt.
I have seen tulip sleeves pattern before but none with the piping. I really think the piping brings out the design. A bold piping also accents the sleeves very well. I am thinking about making a similar pattern for a top for myself.
I stopped at size 6 on this pattern because I am not sure older girls would like the enchanted look of the sleeves. I also may do a 2T when I get some spare time.
The dress has a standard tie strap at the back with button closure. Sorry, I did not tell Mila to turn around to get a picture of the back.
